Admissions at Gately Academy

Application Process

The primary goal of our application process is to ensure that Gately Academy will best meet the unique academic needs of your child.  For that reason, we do ask for a lot of information from you.  We understand that these forms are detailed and will take time on your part.  The information we receive from them allows us to thoughtfully assess your child’s learning needs and we thank you in advance for your efforts.  If you have questions about the process at any time please feel free to contact our office and we will gladly assist you.

One of the first steps is for parents to visit the school, either at one of our evening Open Houses or by taking a tour during the school day.  Either of these can be arranged by calling our office.

We also ask that all prospective students attend Gately Academy for a “shadow” day, to get a first-hand feeling for what student life is like.  Often the visit also lessens a new student’s anxiety about moving to a possible new school.  Please schedule your student’s visit with our office.

The Gately Academy application consists of several parts:

  1. The School Application should be completed by the teacher(s) and counselor who have worked most closely with your child over the last year.  Please ask them to complete each question and provide additional comments, then mail the form/s directly to Gately.
  2. The Family Application is self-explanatory, but please feel free to contact us if you have questions.  Please include a photo of your child.
  3. The Student Questionnaire should ideally be completed after the student has completed his/her shadow day.  We ask that this be handwritten, and in the student's own words.
  4. The Application Fee ($100) is non-refundable; h owever, if your child is accepted and enrolls, $50 will be credited toward your first month's tuition.  The fee increases to $125 for any application submitted after July 1,
  5. If your child currently has an IEP or 504 Plan, please attach a copy.  Also, please include past report cards , particularly the most current.
  6. If your child has been evaluated in the past by a private psychiatrist/psychologist/therapist, etc., please include copies of their report(s).  Also, if your child has had a psychological evaluation at school, please provide a copy.
  7. Testing allows us to better understand your child's specific learning needs and develop curriculum to address those needs.  We traditionally have requested the two Weschler tests (Weschler Individual Achievement Test [WIAT or WIAT-II] and Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children [WISC-IV]).  However, If your child has had other similar testing (i.e. Woodcock-Johnson III, Iowa Test of Basic Skills [ITBS], Oregon standardized testing [OAKS], Stanford-Binet), please submit with your application prior to scheduling any other testing.

Following review by the Admissions Committee, you will be informed of their decision within one-two weeks.

While there is no application deadline, we encourage parents to submit applications as soon as possible.  It is often difficult to get teacher evaluations completed over the summer, and the students do not have a chance to spend a shadow day on campus with other Gately students.

One final note:  If you intend to ask your school district to pay to send your child to Gately Academy, please contact them before proceeding with this application.  Any such placements by the school districts must be initiated by them.
