Application Process
The primary goal of our application process is to ensure that Gately Academy private school will best meet the unique academic needs of your child. For that reason, we do ask for a lot of information from you. We understand that these forms are detailed and will take time on your part. The information we receive from them allows us to thoughtfully assess your child’s learning needs and we thank you in advance for your efforts.
One of the first steps is for parents to visit the school, either at one of our evening Open Houses or by taking a tour during the school day. Either of these can be arranged by calling our office.
We also ask that all prospective students attend Gately Academy for a “shadow” day, to get a first-hand feeling for what student life is like. Often the visit also lessens a new student’s anxiety about moving to a possible new school. Please schedule your student’s visit with our office.
The Gately Academy application consist of several parts:
- The School form should be completed by the teacher(s) and counselor who have worked most closely with your child over the last year. Please ask them to complete each question and provide additional comments.
- The Family form is self-explanatory, but please feel free to contact us if you have questions.
- If your child currently has an IEP, we would like you or the school to attach a copy. We would also like you or the school to include as many past report cards as possible, particularly the most current.
- If your child has been evaluated in the past by a private psychiatrist/psychologist/therapist, etc., please include copies of their report(s). Also, if your child has had a psychological evaluation at school, we would like a copy enclosed.
- In order for us to understand your child’s specific learning needs and develop curriculum to address those needs, we require the following tests:
- Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV)
- Weschler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT or WIAT-II)
A non-refundable $100 application fee must accompany all of the forms before an application will be reviewed by our Admissions Committee. If your child is accepted and enrolls in Gately, $50 will be credited to your first month's tuition.
One final note: If you intend to ask your school district to pay to send your child to Gately Academy, either now or in the future, please contact them before proceeding with this application. Any such placements by the school districts must be initiated by them.
