- Who attends Gately Academy private school?
- 9-14 year old students in grades 4-8 who benefit from additional learning support for learning differences.
- What is the school schedule?
- 8:45 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 8:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday (early dismissal for teacher meetings/planning). Major holidays match the Portland School District calendar as closely as possible.
- What is the ratio of teachers to students?
- 1 teacher for every 9-10 students. Some classes are smaller as the student need dictates.
- Who are the staff members?
- Director, seven certified teachers, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, an Art therapist/teacher, and a teacher/counselor. Learn more about our staff.
- What classes are offered?
- Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Art, Fitness, Social Thinking, Organizational Skills, Keyboarding, a wide variety of Enrichment courses, Educational/Cultural Field Trips and Community Service (where students integrate classroom learning with community volunteering).
- Does Gately Academy incorporate Oregon benchmarks?
- Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Social Science and Science curricula prepare students to meet the Middle School Oregon State Benchmarks.
- How do students improve social skills?
- Interpersonal skills coaching focuses on involving students as partners in positive problem solving.
- Community meetings and student committees help build a strong learning community and reinforce positive social skills. Student body officers are elected every trimester and each student is encouraged to participate in planning activities.
- An active Student Ambassador leadership program encourages students to take a dynamic role in promoting their school to visitors and other students.
- Can parents volunteer?
- Yes! Many opportunities are available within the school and at Gately-sponsored community events. Parents are requested to volunteer 30 hours each school year (10 hours per trimester) in ways that suit their talents and schedules.
- Is lunch provided?
- Students bring their own lunches that do not require refrigeration or reheating.
- Are there classroom observations for prospective parents?
- Yes; please contact our office to schedule a date.
- How much is tuition and is there Financial Aid?
- Tuition for the 2011-2012 school year is $14,600. Upon acceptance a $2500 non-refundable deposit is requested to secure enrollment. The balance is divided over 10 monthly payments. A $250 activity fee is required at the start of the school year. For students entering mid-year, the deposit is pro-rated.
- Limited Financial Aid is available and is distributed based on demonstrated financial need. Financial aid awards can cover up to a maximum of 40% of the annual tuition. Applications must be submitted by June 1st to be considered for the following school year.
- Additional tuition reduction will be awarded to students whose immediate household member/s are active Providence Health & Services employees who possess current PH&S photo ID.
