Volunteer Opportunities
Gately Academy offers a variety of volunteer options, categorized into specific event-related opportunities for families to participate in. We know that special events, fundraising, field trips and charity work wouldn’t be possible without the help of our committed parents and families. Gately Academy requires 30 hours of volunteer time per family, each school year. Listed below are a few of the ways volunteers like to get involved. Contact Gately Academy for more information about current volunteer opportunities.
- Providence Festival of Trees: Committee works with the Providence Special Events Department to present a decorative holiday tree for the annual Providence Festival of Trees. The committee works with a designers and prepares a package that accompanies the tree at the festival.
- Technology Committee: This committee analyzes the technology needs of the school, working with staff and administration to meet those needs. This committee seeks out grant opportunities to fund such technologies. This committee meets ad hoc.
- Library Committee: Committee members inventory the books, magazines, reference materials, and other ancillary materials that are housed within Gately's library. They are key in purchasing new books for the space and hosting Scholastic book sales throughout the year. This committee trains staff and students on the proper use of the library, which would include the check-in and check-out systems. This committee meets ad hoc.
- Stuffed With Love Committee: This committee provides new and gently used stuffed animals to local organizations that primarily serve children within our community. They facilitate a stuffed animal drive in November to meet the needs of Ronald McDonald House of Portland, Albertina Kerr, several women's shelters and a children's grief organization. This committee meets ad hoc.
- Hospitality Committee: This committee is involved with the annual Family-2-Family event at the beginning of the school year, host the scheduled Open Houses over the school year, hosts the Staff Appreciation Week, attends to the GA staff's needs during the bi-annual conference periods, and provide scheduled family evenings throughout the year.
- Pizza Friday Volunteers organize and facilitate the Pizza Friday lunch event at Gately. Pickup of pizza off-site, set-up and clean-up at school, and (the most fun!), distribute pizza to hungry students. All proceeds benefit the Student Council.
- Office Assistants help provide support to Gately's Office Manager by answering phones, special event preparation and oragnizing school mailings.
