Gately Summer Academy
Gately Summer Academy provides intensive instruction for students who will be entering the 4th, 5th and 6th grades in the fall. Using multi-sensory instructional techniques, teachers will spend 2-1/2 hours a day, Monday-Thursday, for 6 weeks focusing on skill acquisition and reinforcement. The six-week session will begin Monday, June 21st and run through Thursday, July 29th. Cost is $575.
- Reading/Writing: Daily instruction will focus on developing reading fluency and comprehension, word attack, decoding, vocabulary development, use of graphic organizers and the writing process. Students will work individually and in small groups with fun hands-on projects. This program includes individual student assessment and a comprehensive written report at the completion of the session. Each student will create a working portfolio of writing samples which can be shared with his/her next teacher.
- Math: This summer model addresses fundamental skill development as well as the true application of those skills. Students will work individually as well as collaboratively in small and large groups to problem solve life’s mathematical questions—how does math work in the real world? Bus schedules, telling time, cooking measurements and standard measurements are but a few we will explore. “Hands-on” and multi-sensory instruction will keep our mathematicians engaged.
Information from your child’s current teachers will be requested in order to allow us to better design a personalized program for your student.
Enrollment in Gately Summer Academy programs is limited to a maximum of 8 students per class session. Applications are processed in the order they are received.
For those students enrolled in both Reading/Writing and Math, a supervised lunch break and activities will be available. Parents will be responsible for providing sack lunches.
Social Thinking Summer Camp
Gately Social Thinking Summer Camp is designed to help students entering grades 6-9 who are looking to develop or improve social interactions. Our emphasis focuses on building social thinking skills through fun indoor/outdoor practice-oriented activities and cooperative games. Campers will visit prearranged locations twice weekly in order to practice social thinking skills with new people in different settings. Professional counselors provide plenty of direction and coaching. Six-week sessions (June 21-July 29) run Monday-Thursday, with a choice of morning and/or afternoon sessions. Morning and afternoon groups offer different curricula, so that campers may attend both sessions if desired. A supervised lunch break and activities will be available between sessions. Parents will be responsible for providing sack lunches. Cost is $625.
